Technical Department

Based at the head office at Maidstone, Kent our Technical Department comprises Technical, Purchasing and Marine Personnel sections, all under the leadership of the Senior Technical Manager.

The Technical section consists of Technical Managers with both engineering and marine expertise, responsible for the safe and efficient technical operation of owned and managed ships within the Absolute fleet. This includes ensuring that all vessels remain in full compliance with the requirements of the relevant Flag State Administration and Classification Society and for dealing with repairs, arranging dry dockings, compiling and costing drydock specifications, carrying out vessel inspections, compiling condition reports and investigating accidents and incidents should they occur.

Other technical duties include the implementation and control of planned maintenance, ISM and ISPS systems, spares procurement, and problem solving on board. The Technical Department also includes the Designated Person Ashore (DPA) who is responsible for the implementation, control and monitoring of the ISM system.

In accordance with the requirements of the Technical Managers , the Purchasing section is responsible for procuring spares and consumables required by the vessels, ensuring prompt delivery of the items and the effective control of costs.

The Marine Personnel section is responsible for the recruitment, appointment and employment of seastaff, ensuring that they are all suitably qualified and that their certification is valid and complete. The section is also responsible for the planning of seastaff rosters, for arranging seafarers reliefs when they are due to proceed on leave and for producing the monthly seastaff payroll.

Collectively, the Technical Department has responsibility for company compliance with the requirements of MLC.

Chartering Department

Based at the head office in Maidstone, Kent with a further office in Ireland, the Chartering and Operations Department is responsible for the operation and planning of our fleet to meet the requirements of our Charterers and Shippers.

The vessels operated within the fleet are all single-deck dry bulk and general cargo carriers and include owned and managed tonnage. The Fleet is engaged primarily on North-West European business but also trades to and from the Mediterranean and, when required, on a worldwide basis. Our vessels carry a comprehensive range of commodities including steel, road making and building materials, forest products, coal products, bulk cement, glass manufacturing products, agricultural products, project cargoes and a wide variety of break bulk and bulk commodities.

Within the fleet are vessels which have a deck-mounted excavator to enable the self-load or self-discharge of aggregate cargoes. These vessels primarily trade between near continental and UK ports. . Onward inland distribution can be arranged as required.

The Chartering Department also incorporates an Agency Section providing comprehensive ship's agency services to owned and third-party vessels calling at ports in south-east England.
